18 charcoal prints on paper, studies from a found floor tile. I was looking at movement and distortion within a single image, beginning by making sketches whilst walking down the street or travelling on the bus. I layered images and overlapped lines. Then I started to notice the geometry within nature, connecting lines flowing in ways I'd never noticed before. I was fascinated and began to experiment further within my movement drawings. I found the floor tile on the street and knew it would be the perfect object to study. To create this series of prints I drew on the back of the tile in willow charcoal and dropped it from varying heights on to paper, letting dust fly and shapes form. Many prints are the result of more than one instance of this action, and on several I drew back in to them with charcoal and/or smudged the edges of the routine charcoal shape. |
