Twenty-one boys in Year 7 have each contributed a piece of work to make up ther collaborative installation. The boys took their inspiration from the work of Rachel Whiteread.
Each boy has contributed a book, identical in size to the original. The boys' books also recreate directly the front cover, back cover and spine of the original book using photocopies in a process called emulsion trasfer. They occupy an equivalent space to that of the original books, but are materially quite different: constructed from card and glue, each boys' work is light whereas the original is heavy; it is monochrome whereas the the original is colourful; and of course it cannot be opened; it contains no words. |
