For a possible final piece idea and own response for this section I drew on influence from the processes imposed on the work of Barriball and the idea of recovering lost items. Through further experimenting with ideas I went into the dark room to layer up a couple of images. One of the site and one of the item found in the site. As a final response I wanted the photograph to look well processed and aged so I decided to play around with chemigrams that is a relatively new experimental technique which led a whole exhibition to be created called the Shadow Catchers. I wanted to both develop part image and also impose chemical effects on to the surface to create a layered effect and an effect of decay and age over time. To create the drip marks in previous experiments I allowed the chemicals to drip down onto the surface of the light sensitive paper. This process is based very much on chance just like me going out to find items of interest. I could not predict the final image which excited me as a process. Bringing in influence by Joseph Alys, who tore and re attached his images with a masking tape style technique, allowed me to apply further process. The final piece I feel still retains some things in common that I see in the work of Barriball but within my work I am using my own photographs derived from traditional techniques. From these techniques I have used other processes to process the image then I have torn it up, re put back together, and then finally sprayed the spider looking drip down the image. The overall image creates the mood of an event that has taken place. The images look old and withered like time has impacted on the photograph similar to the feel of the objects that I found in the environment. |
