Mural 'Malal and her friends' it measure 16.5ftX6 ft. it is poster colours and small mirrors on cotton cloth.
Painted by children from the conflict ridden province of Pakistan called Khyber Pakhtunkhwa painted it , even children from Malala's the young activist who was shot for raising her voice for girls education, home town Mingora and Kabal from Swat worked on this mural. This mural is not about excellence in art but it is all about the sheer joy of painting experienced by children traumatised by continuous violence in their cities and villages. This mural is not about how good the children are at painting but how eager these little girls and boys were while painting for the first time. These children have never had formal painting lessons and some of them painted for the first time in their lives. The point of this colourful activity was to give them an opportunity to have 'fun' with colours but also give them an everlasting image they can think about. The schools Art prize is about the work by one student and that are technically very superior because the schools have very good art department. But Funkor works with children who have never painted before, as a teacher
I do not work with children to make them great artists I work with children who have not experienced the joy of painting I promote love for painting in a country where Art is also endangered due to increasing radicalisation. So most of the work I have done with children is not of very amazing artists. I would rather wait till I have incredible work by a gifted child to enter .
'Malala and friends' was painted at the Funkor Childart Center stall at the Children's Literature Festival in Peshawar in 2012.
