There are three classes in each year group (apart from in Year 6 where there are two). The percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals is well above average (43.3% compared to a national figure of 26.2%), which is an increase on recent years. The school’s deprivation indicator is also above average (at 0.31 as opposed to the national average of 0.24) and that is higher than in previous years (moving from 0.26 to 0.31 in the last two years). The percentage of pupils with special educational needs is above average (23.5%), with the number of children with statements for special educational needs in line with the national average. The number of children from ethnic minorities is below the national average (11.3% compared with 27.7%, although has increased from 8.7% the previous year) as is the percentage of pupils where their first language is not believed to be English (6.1% compared with 17.5%). The school stability percentage is in line with national average at 87.4%. However this does not take into account a higher turnover than usual that has occurred in the last 6 months. The school has a catchment which is socially diverse, which can often exhibit significant and complex needs, as a result the the percentage of children who have significant and complex needs is on the increase. Having previously been placed in Special Measures a little over a year ago, the school is now rated good, with a range of features which have been identified as outstanding.
