The Academy in Bloxwich, Walsall opened in September 2003. Our student enrolment is 1159 with approximately 250 students in the Sixth Form. The School is one of a number of City Academies established in England and is sponsored by The Mercers’ Company of the City of London and Thomas Telford School. Free education is provided for all students as our local catchment area is one the most deprived areas in the country. The Arts play an important role in the life of the academy. We want to give our students different opportunities to develop the confidence to express themselves and ignite the passion art. To further enrich and provide relevance to student learning we arrange trips to art galleries such as Saatchi Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain and Ikon Gallery. Our Art students are very dedicated staying as late as 10.00pm on a weekly basis. We strongly believe it is important to develop students’ achievements and give opportunities to explore their true potential.
