Ripple in Vast Sea of Uncertainty
Ripple in Vast Sea of Uncertainty
Photo Description:
oil on canvas During the time this piece was created I was heavily obsessed with the Surrealist artist Rene Magritte. This piece was, as I see it, a painting of my conscious thought. At the time this painting was made I was having girlfriend friend problems which I represented through an abstract version of a Magritte painting. The teapot was representing my now ex-girlfriend as she had an interest in teapots and I was the figure with the bag over its head showing that I was desperately trying to keep my negative feelings at bay. The two contrasting surfaces in the background of the painting were representing the way I felt and the way I was treating my feelings on the surface, hence the blood from the eye dripping into the other surface showing that my feeling were slowly coming through and the lightning (anger) creating a tiny ripple (surface feeling). This also gives the impression that more is yet to happen and that it is a snap shot op my feelings at a precise time. Also the wave in the corner represents a slight outbursts that happen in my own privacy.
