| Cheltenham College
Cheltenham College is a famous English co-educational independent school in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.
The first of all the major public schools of the Victorian period, it was opened in July 1841. It was included in the 1893 book Great Public Schools (written by E. S. Skirving, S. R. James, Henry Churchill and Maxwell Lyte) which included a chapter on each of what they regarded to be England's ten greatest public schools.
By 1868 it had extended its age range and made provision for boarders as well as day boys. It has remained predominantly a boarding school, although with a significant proportion of day pupils. Girls were first admitted into the sixth form in 1981 and the College became fully coeducational in 1998.
The College is situated in extensive grounds close to the town centre. Its Victorian buildings still dominated by the chapel, library and dining hall, have been augmented by much subsequent development, including purpose-built specialist teaching areas, boarding houses and sports facilities.The College has 571 pupils aged from 13-18, with 376 boys and 195 girls; 320 were in Years 9...
