The winners of the 2010 Saatchi Gallery Sculpture at School Prize were announced at a prize-giving ceremony at the Saatchi Gallery in London on 25 January 2011.
The first prize was awarded to Thomas Powell, aged 9, a pupil at Milbourne Lodge School. He received £250 and his school's art department was awarded £1000 to spend on art and computer equipment.
The two runners-up are Lucy Bignnell, aged 18, from Sir William Ramsay School, and Jordan Temple, aged 17, from Bacons College. Each runner-up was given £100.
The Saatchi Gallery Sculpture at School Prize was launched in 2009 and is open to primary, secondary and sixth form schools from around the world who are invited to submit art work by students up to the age of 18. Over 1500 entries were submitted this year. The panel of judges included the artists littlewhitehead, Tessa Farmer, Jonathan Baldock and Anthea Hamilton. Tessa Farmer presented the prizes to the winning students on the day.
The Prize is part of the Saatchi Gallery's education programme, which is committed to introducing contemporary art to younger audiences. More than 1,200 school groups have visited the new Saatchi Gallery since it opened in Chelsea in October 2008. An exhibition of the 10 shortlisted entries is at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's Sq, King's Road, London SW3 4SQ from 25 January 2011 to 1st February 2011.
