This painting was inspired by the colourful lushness of the New Zealand bush, as admired from a car window.
Sparked from travels to the South Island of NZ and driving through the untouched Beech forests of Arthurs & Lewis Pass. These lush forests tower over you like silent ancient giants.
Here I depict the movement of flora & sky swooshing in a symphony of colour & light. The shimmering of the sun captured in highlights of gold across the canvas, travelling sparingly to the forest floor.
The contrast of colours affected by the light, as well as the movement, makes for a lush and textural abstract surface.
The paint is applied with a thick impasto technique, making the paint jump out to enhance the reflective-ness of light on the surface, as well as conveying the expressiveness and speed of movement.
