Artwork Description:

'escape the stresses of everyday life and retreat to a simpler time' In her traditionally composed paintings of flowers and Greek icons, Marinella expresses the peace, relaxation, and spirituality she connects with the act of painting. Although she renders oil-on-canvas floral subjects in hues reminiscent of the Renaissance tradition, she masterfully uses negative space and photographic angles to produce graphic images with a decidedly modern sensibility. Marinella's works appear starkly divided into two categories, but they are intrinsically linked by her personal symbolism influenced by her deep faith and personal story. Rather than painting to express the sorrows of her past, Marinella paints to help the viewer escape the stresses of everyday life and retreat to a simpler time where forgotten values are embraced.
