我的简介 - MIE OLISE KJAERGAARD
Mie Olise Kjærgaard. Born in DK, based in New York and Cph.
I graduated my MA in Fine Art from Central St. Martins in London in September 2007. As I graduated my MA, I was chosen one of the four finalists in the Saatchi competition “4 New Sensations”. I also went to the Istanbul Biennale, invited by The Triangle Project.
WORK. My work include large scale painting, video, installation, sculpture and what I call “constructions”. I work with space, abandoned constructions and fallen utopian ideas. My approach is brutally romantic and melancholic, it is slow and poetic. I can´t explain my ideas in a one-line sentence, that is why I have to work with them visually.
THE PYRAMID. I have been to The Arctic Circle twice; In the summer 2007 and 2008. I went on my own to the abandoned Russian city, The Pyramid City. It´s a completely abandoned town, with plants still in the windows, books still in the library. 4 Hours by ship from Longyearbyen (and all civilization) at Svalbard Islands.
I worked in video, capturing the exteriour details of the architecturally fantastic city. The city was designed of the best architects, and the materials used of really good quality. The video showed the communist utopia, that fell to the ground, yet still there captured in the cold. Grass imported from Ukraine, and a fantastic street of parade, with lampposts.
I showed the video inside a shed, with sound, under the name, The Noisy Shed, at the 10th Istanbul Biennale in September 2007, invited by The Triangle Project.
I received the Danish Art Councils one-year working grant to do this project.
2009. In 2009 I am accepted to Residencies at Iceland(NES), Berlin, The Skowhegan Residency in Maine and 9 months at the ISCP (international studio and curatorial programme) in New York, I look forward to be a part of an international group, focusing on our work, discussing details and ideas, and being on our way further into the International Art World.
