Looking over imaginary landscapes 2004
Looking over imaginary landscapes is a light work based on John Cage's Imaginary landscapes. Melvin drew three circles at random on a copy of Cage's score and copied them onto three drum skins. The resulting drawings were then back lit and installed in a darkened space alongside other video work. This piece explores the object as both score and instrument with the use of visual rhythms and actual musical equipment.
