STATEMENT:
I believe that there is a harmonious balance and equilibrium to the natural world that we were once part of. In our eagerness to become civilised, technologically advanced and cultured, we as a species have become disconnected and are now at odds with the world around us. The normal ebb and flow of nature has halted for us and I believe we are moving painfully towards our own annihilation. Where there is true horror and tragedy there is also a certain level of absurdity. My work pivots on this point, between exploring the brutality of existence and wet yourself hysteria. I seek to awaken the viewer by liberating them from ingrained patterns of behaviour. I employ strategies that are both serious and playful to create moments of vulnerability to heighten the experience of existence, and I offer a moment of absurdity to counter the tragedy and brutality of existence. I create objects that facilitate these moments, mini experiences set apart from routine. The moment I create will belong to the viewer exclusively. They will take it with them and add it to the fabric of their own lives and experience. The focus of my work is the experience that my objects can offer rather than the objects themselves.
