I work predominately with found materials, using the post-practical qualities of outdated household objects for a lyrical exploration of utility. I am interested in a sense of dysfunction, restriction, where the object’s practical use had been lost or removed artificially to leave it as a functionally empty but familiar form. I would define my practice as a collector’s accumulation of objects and states as I observe the progress of objects from use to storage to archive, ever so likely to take a shortcut or return unexpectedly to function again. A lot of my work arises from my personal engagement with sourcing, arranging and manipulating; a kind of object-play that would be a visual equivalent of word-play. Reflective of my interest in nomadism and adaptation, my installations employ the aesthetics of temporary low-budget existence, of human imprint and the art of home-making.
