Vanessa Cash
University Of Houston, MFA Canidate

I was born in Midland Texas, but I currently Live in Dallas, and am trying to relocate to Houston for Graduate school. ************ My current work visually represents the incoherent nature of experience. I combine unpronounceable titles with the geometric of a flat graphic and the bubbly organic shape of soft pliable creatures. The creatures I create come from my attempts to metabolize issues that have presented themselves to me. The padded bulky nature of most of my creatures relates to my own body issues. My creatures capture the stuffed and bulky feeling of being overweight help me come to terms with the truth of my body. The forms also borrow from the strong mental imagery I had as a child about the monster that lived outside of my window. I was convinced as a child that it could see all of my sins, and was waiting to destroy my guilty self. This monster, I've come to believe, was kind of a young manifestation of my own emotional turmoil. This turmoil occurred due to the combination of my parents messy divorce and my enrollment in Christian school. Christian school only taught me disdain for the moral structure it sought to uphold. Perhaps the guilty monster of my... [ Read all ]

My Least Favourites
Artists I hate most Fantasy art, and most renaissance/medieval art bores me. I sometimes look at fan art for laughs, but it mostly nauseates me.
Movies love stories, anything where the love of someones life was where they least expected it, those horrible spring break movies, I'm not being specific because they are the same plot devices regurgitated over and over.
Books see above, and apply it to books.
Places really crowded places, or places with allot of noise, because I don't always here so well.
TV Shows see above movie rant, and apply it to tv.
Music hip hop, country, shit indy rock (their is good indy rock), alternative, Christian...Honestly when I listen to the radio it's NPR

My Interests
Art, Hermit Crabs, Cats, Horror Movies, Reading.

My Sports and Hobbies
Jello is more athletic then I. I don't really have time for hobbies, but I guess my hermit crabs are kind of a hobby.
