I study plants and animals and rocks and fungi and incorporate their forms in my art. Drawing an object connects me to it. My art conveys the interconnectedness of every thing and every being on this planet. The human is most oblivious to this unity, but not exempt from it; therefore, the human is an important element in my art. I unite the human figure with the space around it; the lines and shapes form into other things and beings. The entire image reminds me of the forest floor, never ending and always changing. Some shapes I repeat on different scales to emulate the fractal repetition found everywhere in nature. The arthritic movement of my line shows the fractal, rather than linear, edge of the objects. It is important that the repetition never creates an exact copy, for nature repeats itself but never identically. To this end I strive to create something different every time I pick up a pen. Using various ball-point pens has allowed me to search for shape and fractal line, create and delete space, and unite every form in each of my drawings.
