Wow, you really don't fool around. Or, you do fool around, but you go all the way. Very exciting work. Those self portraits are . .. so crazy and inventive, but not in that sort of over-thought way one usually sees. I love how mythical, allegorical and free and funny and bluntly crazy they are. I hope I'm getting across what I mean. It's not easy.
They are fantastical, and yet feel so instinctual at the same time. Do you know what I mean?
Also, the weirdness of much of the imagery, balances out the slightly academic approach to some of the drawing; a slight automatic pilot way of drawing is interrupted by you having to figure out how to draw the imagined parts and that tension is good.
Sometimes in the more straightforward figure studies, I feel too much the academic hand -- "this is the way you show that the form is turning," etc. But, I have to say, even in those, they have such a dark romantic tone, that you often get away with the more formulaic way of translating a form.
I hope this makes enough sense to be worth reading. I am excited to find your work. I look through the pieces on here hour after hour. Not too many are truly interesting.
