Mark Melvin

I am an artist currently based in London, working predominantly in video, installation and sound.
I carry out the majority of my work in the UK, often working in collaboration with my brother, composer Adam Melvin. What can be seen in my work throughout is a preoccupation with the work as process, and in turn looping, sequence and rhythmic iteration have been prominent in their construction. Repetition is evident in my practice and I often experiment with various cycles and levels of repetition, be it a discussion of the habitual and routine, investigations into recollection and memory or the use of music. American Minimalist music has especially influenced my approach to video and performance, and I have adopted similar cyclical and repetitive compositional tactics to provide structure for the processes in my work.
