I am Canadian artist interested in exploring the relationship between the hand and text, through the materiality of objects and forms. I am currently living in London, and working with Florence Trust Studios, having recently earned my Master’s of Fine Art degree from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in 2007. I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) in 2006.
The body, manual labor and technological reproduction fascinates me as it functions in a multitude of roles: as a vehicle for communication, excessive repetition and beauty. Therefore, I begin with the body by making use of materials, as my work is largely materially and process driven.
Moreover, I am also considering the function, history and format of text and language as a crucial reference point. I am finding myself more concerned with the fragmentation of the body within an emerging technological culture: mainly the lack of physical interaction between the individual and the more so-called nostalgic means of communication. My work seeks to use the body to address the physicality of language and the written word.
