ARTIST STATEMENT
The Artwork I create has a function to provoke and unsettle.
This function is not to shock, it is merely the production and the process of making work that looks disturbing. This disturbance in the work is often related to me as a person, but only relates to expression of important modern day issues.
Issues such as war, cosmetic surgery, evolution, and modification form Identities within the objects/sculptures I make. All these issues are fused together to create a sinister tableau in which you could only muster up in science fictional nightmares.
The plausibility of my work is the most important part of my practice. There is always a fear of taking the sculptures/objects too far and then them being too surreal. This is why I included a sense of character in each sculpture and each of them plays a vital role in the narrative and the environment in which they countermand. One being a venerable child who is reaching out for his mother’s hand. She can’t offer any comfort to the child as she is screaming in pain whilst she gives birth to something that’s even more disturbing than her.
