Desires and curiosities direct me as an artist. I love the theatricality, dark humour and intense colours of the carnivalesque, the sentimentality and brutality of the German Expressionists' depiction of the human body, the multi-faceted and complex constructs of time and narrative, and the moments of transition inherent in liminal spaces. My studio practices include photography, video, drawing, painting, printmaking, installation events and text. I allow concept to dictate media. My most recent work is a body of photographs that are the remnants of an installation I designed for a charity event. I have worked with the Birthday Cake as a starting point for the past year and a half. Its function as a mnemonic device, social manipulator and empty container for all variety of meanings is fertile ground.
