| About the Artist |
This current work I am undertaking are abstract expressions of a new-found freedom to paint truthfully and honestly. These works are autobiographical expressions of journey and imagination, yet based on the everyday visual information of everyday life journey. This search is rather a personal journey for me that lead me to questions and answers about my life my surroundings and myself. Through the metaphor of Landscape, I am exploring the questions of life and our existence. The fragility of Birth, Life and Death are always reflected in our landscape and exploring this cycle of life is a journey of itself. Hopefully it will raise for me many more expected and unexpected outcomes and questions and reflections though of the course of my exploration.
My work has gone through many differant stages and expressions over the years , which in turn reflects my life at certain time during this same period. This fact is often represented in the work itself as i reuse old work, or what i may regard as being finished piece, and start again to create something new. This constant state of change and flux is the essence of my work, the physical result of this method of working can be traced on the paintings themselves, the textures and undercoats and washes peeking through and scraping back of the layers of paint also tells a tale of its own, each painting has its own unique history. These more recent works that see me focusing on landscape , the resulting studies are more solid and ordered than chaotic events of the past. For me this way of working has become, over time, a way for me to express my inner thoughts, feelings and emotions. Hopefully this will lead to a freedom in me to express myself and in turn make some more honest art. |
