| This is an abstract color study and is part of a series of abstract faces. I used one of my paintings of an abstract face as the original source of departure for the series. As I digitally manipulated the image of the painting, I was inspired by the colors of joyous dreams and fauvist paintings.

| I started with a photo I took of a tree. When I took the photo, I wanted to capture the tree’s sculptural qualities. Later, I digitally manipulated the photo to create a more emotive, subjective work. I imagined what that particular tree might look like if it were depicted as an image that was halfway between a photograph and a painting.
A hybrid of photography and art, this work blends what was captured in a photograph with digital artistic manipulation, creating a picture of what previously existed only in my imagination.

| When seen in larger view more details can be seen, including patterns of numbers behind the veils of color. The numbers are reminiscent of coordinates on a map. The idea of adding them came to me in a dream after I created the first two works in this series.
This is an abstract color study and is part of a series that uses the idea of maps of imaginary worlds as inspiration.

| I used a photo I took as a starting point and digitally manipulated it, creating a hybrid of photography and art. In the original photo, the way that the branches framed the sky into a faceted pattern already had abstract elements in it, and I used that to spark my imagination. Using color in an emotive, subjective manner also helped to abstract the image. |

The origins of this first image in the series came out of my digital manipulation of one of my photos of trees. Originally, I was thinking of creating an image I could use primarily as a texture. But it soon took on a life of its own, especially when color was added. As I continued to abstract the image, I thought of color transforming a map of an imaginary world. When I look at the finished image, it reminds me of the way the ground below looks when seen from a plane. It also reminds me of abstract landscape painting.
