Yaviz Basalamah

About the Artist

I’m a painter working mainly with acrylics on canvas, but sometimes I also like to mix acrylics with other mediums such as grain gels, markers and beads. My inspirations can often come from anywhere at any time, but I tend to enjoy being inspired by movies or songs that I can relate to at the time. I’m also not afraid to portray human stories that are considered cliché or corny nowadays, as I would always try to portray them in a way that would be appropriate for today.

When it comes to my paintings, my brush strokes may seem 'uncomfortably' harsh for some people when they see them for the first time. But when it comes to art, I've always felt inclined toward those that are more raw. As I personally feel that paintings should be more honest than just tidy strokes of paints, which often can easily be mistaken for prints.
