I was born last century in Bucharest, Romania and currently live in Toronto, Canada.
I started painting at an early age, following in the footsteps of my father. We were both naturally artistic, while our professional lives developed quite in the opposite direction, far away from art and imaginative expression.
I studied Architecture, Visual Arts, Fashion Design and Engineering and the combination of the four made me what I am today.
At one point in my life, in the context of the communist dictatorial regime, my artistic vision could not materialize freely, so I had to give it up for a few years.
After moving to Canada, I relied on my formal art training I had back in Romania as a base for future development as an artist and started slowly to get back to working the colors on the canvas.
Soon enough I regained the confidence and desire to fully engage my creativity into the visual expression of volumes and color and take it as high as I could.
I am still experimenting, always learning, trying to defy rules, searching ways to positively shock the eye and the mind and looking forward to the discovery of the unknown.
My technique is based on using various thickness of paint and adding multiple layers in order to obtain tri-dimensional effects and create natural shadows. My artwork slowly navigates from a 2 dimensional surface to a 3D visualization of the moment to be captured, embedded in geomorphic, organic textures and shapes. The colors vary from subdued tones of earthy gold to bright reds and mixing mediums will help solidify the artistic mess into an architecturally sound structure with a perfect balance of form and vision, my vision.
I create large, dominant pieces, looking to break the monotony and the usual
I try to extend an intellectual and visual challenge within every piece I create. I only hope the challenge will be accepted.

CREDO:
I chose to play with volumes, textures and forms in a primal and essential state and I am in a permanent search for ways of breaking traditional rules.
I believe there is no poor expression. Only the lack of it will isolate you from the others.
Experimenting is essential.
Colors are my words, I’m speaking a universal language, so anyone, at some point, can hear and understand what I want to communicate.
I would die in a monochrome world.
Shapes and light have different meanings and I want to explore them all.

Golden era
2006 Mixed: Acrylic & paper collage on canvas 76.20x76.20 |
|
: A glamorous, soft toned representation of the cruelty of fashion world, the never achieved dream for perfect beauty and, sometimes, the truth of the physical destruction or alienation that comes hand in hand with the success. What is it behind the Golden surface? |
Out of the blue
2005 Mixed: oil & gold mesh on canvas 76.20x76.20 |
|
This is the attempt to visualize the impromptu, the moment of apparition, the surprise of colour. An organic, fiery red surface textured with gold, fluidic accents opens up to a deep blue seed of hope and adventure. Escape of the blue is not possible as metallic fortresses are guarding the edges of the abyss. Egocentricity of colour is overcome by stand-alone points of materiality like the metallic grains or the arabesque trails inside the oil layers. |
Maitreyi
2006 Mixed: Acrylic and pencil on canvas 91.45x60.95 |
|
Inspired by a novel with the same name by Mircea Eliade, this composition figuratively turns its back to you while opening the door to deep emotions, lost love and found belief. Her soul travels to you and her thoughts are concentrating to form a stable, balanced, textured structure that will keep her verticality forever. |
Distant approach
2006 Acrylic on canvas 91.45x60.95 |
|
A visual interpretation of the temporisation of personal contact between two strangers universally attracted to each other. It starts calmly, with an orderly, well behaved, civilized approach and ends up crazy and tumultuous, with two souls mixing and de-mixing within their physical amalgamation. |
24K
2006 Acrylic on canvas 2 canvas panels, 91.45x91.45 total |
|
A versatile, fun diptych that blends organic shapes and volumes of gold with the colours buried beneath. It can be displayed horizontally or vertically and it is expandable by the space left between the canvases. A world of discovery opens up every time the eye tries to identify and relate the shapes to object and known definitions. Nothing seems real but everything needs to be touched, felt and loved. Like the 24 K gold, this is a jewel to be cherished and forever admired. |
Vezuviana
2006 Oil on canvas 76.20x76.20 |
|
Inspired by the music of Pink Floyd at Pompei, this is the vision of the fiery lava covering the ashes of burned civilizations. |
NYC glow
2006 Mixed: Acrylic & Ink on canvas 76.20x76.20 |
|
The material, palpable concept of human energy decomposed in warm colors and simple structures, almost reduced to pixels of visual intensity. |
Amelie, Jacques and Madelaine
2006 Acrylic on canvas 76.20x76.20 |
|
A cubist interpretation of a French musical trio I met several years ago. One was sad and her singing cried her lost love, the other was counting the money they made and Jacques who just kept them together without trying to understand anyone's feelings. Three separate entities melted together in their love for music and nonchalant responsibility. |
