I was born in 1953 in Epsom hospital. I have enjoyed art all my life. I discovered Encaustic Art(painting with wax) in 1991 and have been teaching this art since 1996. I now have an encaustic art gallery and shop selling encaustic tools and materials etc.

I work intuitively and in the 'alla prima' style (done in one continous session) 'alla prima' is Italian and means 'at first'. Working spontaneously gives a free fresh exciting feel to my paintings. All that is needed for me to begin is a direction, approach or an idea. I produce paintings that I hope reflect emotions, energy and feeling. Some have a spiritual feel about them. Anything and everything can insprie me, a thought or feeling, a walk along the beach, or gazing at the clouds in the sky, maybe a golden field in the sunlight. All my paintings come from my imagination.
I personally feel that a painting should be eyecatching and colourful to deserve a place on your wall and hope that my paintings leave a positive atmosphere in the room that they are hung leaving the observer lifted in spirits by what they see. |

I achieved a grade 1 CSE in Art with a distinciton which then was the equivalent to GCE. I left school at 16 to follow a career as a window dresser. After getting married and having two children I decided to attend watercolour classes when my two children started school. From there I found Encaustic Art. After seeing a demonstration from a fellow watercolourist who had just bought some waxes etc. I was hooked and bought myself waxes and equipment to begin my exciting exploration of this medium.I am a self taught Encaustic Artist but after 5 years attended Michael Bossoms first 'Teachers Course' which came about to achieve a recognised standard of encaustic art teaching in the country. I was in the first group of twelve to submit 15 pieces of artwork to be assessed. I then recieved my teachers certificate in Encaustic Art from Michael.
I was also chosen from 100 entries to write a 'how to' article for a craft magazine.
I now have my own studio where I have my gallery and where I hold workshops.
My artwork has been displayed in local exhibitions and some of my paintings have been taken to other parts of the world. |
