| 关于此艺术家 |
I work in different media including painting, drawings, prints, and sculpture, with a focus mostly on painting and works on paper. The subject matter of my work is to explore the fundamental themes of existence – and to portray reality and the nature of the self from various perspectives. These perspectives manifest the effects of social, psychological, emotional, and visual experiences, (both real and imagined) on human relations. The inter-connections of these indissoluble arenas often manifest a complex reality that explores the nature of the self in relation to contemporary social behaviors, conventions, perceptions, and one’s search for meaning.
In this realm of artistic reality, things that exist, such as desire, solitude, memory, and love, but that are not always perceived in visual form, are depicted. In its approach the work at times draws inspiration from literature and poetry, particularly, for example, the writings of Samuel Beckett, and Ted Hughes. Characters and personas from their writings are often re-created and used in a story-like series of works.
In general, my painting addresses the interplay between figuration and abstraction on the one hand and the internal/external duality on the other.
