I have been taking and developing photographs since the age of 10, working briefly as a newspaper photographer.

I have to live with a place for quite a long time before the photographs begin to work - I lived in a suburb of Moscow for 9 months, passing the same people in the street , passing the same buildings and feeling how the place and the people interact.

Currently I photograph the fields around my village in Hertfordshire. The photographs are bleak and semi-industrial landscapes dominated by the flat horizon, the brown, green or gold of the fields and the huge sky. The photographs show the land empty, but formed by people. There are very few truly natural elements in the landscape here. It is more like an extension of the urban industrial landscape.

These pictures and this land remind me of Russia.
