关于此艺术家

I was born in Cornwall, England in 1953. In 1974 I obtained a B.Sc.Hon. in Biochemistry at University College, Cardiff, Wales and for a year after worked as a research assistant in that department.

However, my love for art which had been always with me, led me to take a course in 3 Dimensional Design, (Ceramics) at Cardiff College of Art where I obtained a 1st class degree in 1979.

I then returned to Cornwall and began full-time work a ceramic artist producing one offs for exhibitions, limited editions, and popular lines. I became a full member of Newlyn Society of Artists and Cornwall Crafts Association, exhibiting with both, regularly.

After a while I found working on my own rather isolating, so returned to college in 1985 to take a Post Graduate Art Teachers Course, after which, I spent 3 months as an Artist in Residence at Llandrindod, Wells High School, Wales, followed by another 6 months as Artist in Residence at the Psychiatric Day Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary where I worked closely with staff and patients.

In 1986 I came to Malta to visit a life long friend, Vivienne Fielding Refalo and subsequently met Fr. Marius Zerafa who invited me to exhibit my work at the National Museum of Fine Arts, which I did in December of that year. I then returned to Manchester to work for S.T.A.R.T. (sheltered training in art) and then came back to Malta to hold another exhibition in December1988.

Since then I have settled permanently in Malta and took part in many collective exhibitions, my last solo one being at St. James Cavalier in 2003/2004. I was delighted to win 1st prize in the 4th National Art Competition organized by the The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce in December 2005.

During all this time I have produced ceramic murals for various hotels and restaurants and trophies for various organizations such as the National Tourism Authority, Malta Marketing Institute, Young Enterprise, Blue Dolphin of Malta and the Broadcasting Authority.

From 1989 to 2005, I ran the Pottery Studio for children with special needs at Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija, then left to go freelance as a clay modelling teacher which I carry out in Sliema and St. James Cavalier, Valletta.

Although my own inspirations derive from various sources, such as marine and microscopic life, fossils, natural formations in sand, rock, wood, African Art and arms and armoury, I encourage my students to express their personal vision by using a diverse range of hand building techniques. All manners of expressions are encouraged, whether they be functional or sculptural and I nurture their work in their individual directions.
