| Tommy Barr |
| |
Tommy Barr is a Northern Ireland based painter, born in Dromore and with his Studio in Banbridge. He has spent most of his working life based in these small towns on the fringes of the capital City of Belfast.
Born into a generation which is known as “the children of the troubles” his generation has spent their entire lives watching the people of their country inflict terrible pain on one another, for reasons which he considers trivial. As a result, Tommy is acutely aware of the potency of the icon and the power of symbolism. This background leads him to create work which is often challenging, but always sensitive.
Tommy’s stated intention is to retain both the disorder and the potency of the icon, to speak in his native tongue and (hopefully) to express that unique iconic identity which is his birthright.
