| 关于此艺术家 |
My point of view is secular and I use narrative to puzzle out how, without an external code to direct us, we can determine humane social relationships. I create characters, give them a problem and see how they do. |

Everything Needs Everything
2004 -2006 woodcut, paper, print, pins |

The first version of this body of work. It plays out under the Gardiner Expressway in an apocalyptic future. Girls tumble from the sky to protect babies who, perfect and fearless, give them a reason to hope and to act |
Rehearsal for Disaster
2005- 2006 woodcut, paper, pins |

Rehearsal for disaster
keeps bringing us back to the same place, but each time the reduction woodcut technique makes the scene look more complicated, more disastrous. This "expressway to disaster" heads to its state
of greatest elaboration - in this instance when it is crumbling and graffiti encrusted.

Rehearsal for disaster
2005 - 2006 woodcut this is a detail of the overview |
|
As the piece develops towards the right side cut by cut it begins to be erased. Then everything is gone. The theme of extinction is only partially mediated by the word "hello" hovering out there in the middle of no where. |

Arguably, obsessively revisited scenarios are preoccupied with guilt and responsibility. We are practising until we get it right in the only part of our lives over which we have some measure of control - our imagination. We are practising for the big and small disasters that come our way. In this sense, this installation is a personal and a social experiment. |
Avalanche
2006 paper double garage size |
|
In the tradition of disasters past and present, Avalanche is a huge paper sculpture that looms up over a creche on two bales of straw. The viewer is confronted with the "press pause" moment just before a 15 foot avalanche falls down upon the urban creche. Or maybe not. MAybe total disaster will be averted. The possibility of rescue rests with the tiny, young acrobat who tumbles down from the ceiling - not even as big as the snowflakes. |
