I like to work with simple forms and beautiful colors. My work is about engaging the viewer in simple, abstract forms intended to provide pleasure in the process. |

Composition I
1995 81cm x 121cm |
|
A complex array of geometric shapes, the Composition Series of wall sculptures explores the interaction of colors and simple forms. |
Woman III
1999 178cm x 142cm x 20cm |
|
Curvaceous and colorful, this sculpture is life size and wall-mounted. |
Venusian Landscape II
1998 81cm x 121cm |
|
This is a fantasy landscape of Venus where the vegetation is luminous and the lakes glow. The purple back-lit terrain is brushed aluminum with a shimmering overcoat of translucent golden paint and the sky is brushed aluminum with planetary glass lenses backlit with neon. The lake is translucent silicone lit from behind with aqua neon. |
Venusian World Tryptich
2004 251cm x 125cm x 20cm X 3 panels |
|
Influenced by the brushed ink style of mountain landscape paintings of Medieval Japan and China, Ehlenberger began exploring the same vertical perspective in this series of works. With a focus on the rough hewn, craggy character of the mountain terrain, he adds his luminous element of back-lighting to provide an ethereal character to the sculptures. |
Realm of Neptune
2003 182cm x 61cm x 13cm X 5 panels |
|
The "Realm of Neptune Series" is comprised of six panels of brushed aluminum in two layers, with sandwiched jewel-like colors of neon casting light onto the background aluminum. The nature of this work varies dramatically from day to night as the rich tones of neon cast the foreground into silohuette, emphasizing the complex, winding forms. |
