Born in Hertfordshire in 1952, my career as an artist began aged 8 years old when a painting of mine was entered by my school into the Hornimans Tea national painting competition and I won 3rd prize. It was at this point that I realised not everyone could draw and paint successfully. It hadn't occurred to me before and I've painted (and drunk tea) ever since.
I spent a great deal of my childhood on the East coast of Suffolk, returning here to live in 2005 after a very varied working life which included several years as a soldier, too many years in IT, a short spell as a college tutor and another driving a lorry. In 2002 I became a full time artist, and I’ve carried that versatility into both subject matter and media. So in my portfolio you can find wildlife, coastal scenes, traditional landscapes, loosely painted semi-abstract pieces as well as highly detailed illustrations. A lot of my more recent work features people and also my favorite subject, horses. I often combine the two, producing Native American and ‘Western’ style artwork. My unmistakably vibrant style of painting suits this subject matter really well and, taking full advantage of the internet, I have been able to market these very successfully in America.

Tackling a large variety of subjects and adapting my style to suit, I work in watercolour, graphite pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal, pastel and pastel pencil. I use high quality materials, adding texture and dramatic colour to introduce atmosphere, mood and movement to my paintings. |

Silent Grace
2009 Watercolour and coloured pencil 36 x 43 |
|
A close portrait of a beautiful native American woman against an abstract background. Using Stonehenge paper I began with a watercolour under painting and finished with Prismacolor coloured pencils. |
As The Crow Flies
2008 Coloured pencil 40 x 30 |
|
I had a dream one night where I heard you call my name.
Waking up I heard the crows calling just the same.
Without a doubt my journey began that day.
As the crow flies, that’s how I’m on my way.
As the crow flies I’ll get back to you one day.
This highly detailed artwork was completed with prismacolor pencils on Bristol board. |
Acoustic Colours
2008 Watercolour and coloured pencil 28 x 46 |
|
Mostly painted with watercolour, then coloured pencils with more watercolour on top to give the unusual and colourful effects in this painting. |
Colour Of The Sun
2008 Watercolour 28 x 40 |
|
A print taken from my original watercolour portrait of a lovely Native American woman which now hangs in the offices of the Creek Indian Enterprises in Alabama USA. |
Cougar Domain
2008 Watercolour 56 x 40 |
|
One of my largest paintings to date, this original watercolour shows a mountain lion (cougar), stretched out on a fallen log. An immense amount of work has gone into painting the fallen dead leaves and the textured bark of the trees. Autumn light filters through the woods and highlights the back of the magnificent big cat.

Enduring Spirit
2008 Watercolour 30 x 40 |
|
Enduring Spirit is an original watercolour painting from my Western series of artworks. Painted with my usual high level of detail from the bears claw necklace to the raccoon skin head dress, a very compelling portrait.
|
Into The Promised Land
2008 Watercolour 33 x 46 |
|
Under a huge tumbling sky, a native american warrior sits upon his pony and surveys the journey ahead. |
Temptation
2008 Watercolour and pastel 30 x 40 |
|
Painted with watercolour then enhanced with pastel pencil, this original painting is bound to attract a lot of attention wherever it is hung. |
A Million Miles Away
2009 Watercolour 40 x 56 |
|
A detailed watercolour portrait of a beautiful Native American Indian maiden, seemingly lost in her thoughts. |
Frontiersman
2009 Graphite pencil on board 48 x 38 |
|
For this highly detailed artwork I have used graphite pencil on Bristol board. It was very challenging to create the several different types of fur and hair. I also put a lot of effort into the detail, the Scrimshawed powder horn, the bead work on his bag, the snakeskin sheath for his bone handled knife.
The horse is based on one who resides up the road from me and I researched a lot to find several examples of clothing I could work from. For the mans face I loosely based his likeness on myself.
All of these elements have come together to make what I think is a very pleasing image. It will be presented bevel mounted in black and framed in a 3 inch wide natural wood frame, ready to hang.

| 教育程度与个人自传 |
I had a grammar school education, after which I went into the British Army aged 17. A career in I.T. followed before I decided I couldn't stand it any longer and began making plans to turn my life around. Being entirely self taught, I began working part time as an artist by submitting caricatures and cartoons to various publications with limited success. I then moved on to watercolours which were instantly popular and sold well. This encouraged me to expand my portfolio and take the next major, life changing step. Becoming a professional artist in 2002 I now contribute to exhibitions and galleries throughout East Anglia and being still very reasonably priced my work is becoming more and more collectible.
I am a professional member of The Society for All Artists (SAA) I was the winner of the Stanborough Arts prize in 2002. During 2005 I was the feature artist for Hertfordshire Life magazine. The well known publisher, Dorling Kindersley has chosen some of my watercolours to be featured in their Watercolour Workshop series of books.
Featured on the front cover of Paint magazine March 2009 plus interview and feature inside.
