| 关于此艺术家 |
Bruce's work is strongly inspired by universal human motifs found in mythology, astronomy and visionary experiences. The two artists that move him the most are Keith Haring and the late Huichol artist and shaman Ramon Medina Silva. Anonymous rock artists from all over the tribal world also inspire him. |

Shaman Dancer
2004 59 x 84cm |
|
An image which came to me whilst dancing, hence the flowing movement of the piece. The shaman wears the antlers which for me signifies great power and a trancelike consciousness. S/he dances over a fiery river which is the Milky Way set aflame by the sheer power of hir dance energy. Others have come to join the dance - the Sun, Moon and Eagle Flyer, as well as a Jaguar Warrior and an Earth Mother figure. Notice that the heart and inner aspect of the shaman is a bright pink which seems slightly out of balance with the rest of the image: despite the wild, fluid and fiery energy of the dance, the shaman knows deeply that hir inner being is one of stillness and peace. Based on a 2001 original. |
Sky (Blue)
2004 Cotton Satin print 70 x 70cm |
|
A conception based on human beliefs regarding the sky and stars. At the top are seen the planets, with Orion at the centre. There are numerous serpents visible in the southern sky, recalling many myths depicting the fundament of the World Below as resting on the body of a snake or dragon. Just under the goddess, the Sun is beginning to rise as the moon sets under Taurus. Thus we see the sky at dawn. |
Her Ship Of Eyes
2004 Paint pen & marker on card 84 x 59 cm |
|
Based on a petroglyph dating to the early Bronze Age and found near Lokerberget, Foss, Sweden. The motif of the Ship of Renewal is an ancient one through much of Western Eurasia. The Goddess, here shown in her death-aspect as a watcher Owl with wide eyes, returns to the Earth in spiring with a ship full of treasure: the magic of the fertility of the land. We see her with wings outstretched, leading the ship to shore in celebration. She sits atop a breasted figure who bears a phallus sprouting from a vulva. The ship itself bears sprouting plants and trees, and two heavy fruits towards the centre. The wood of the ship itself is inlaid with seeds representing the potential of the future harvest. |

| 教育程度与个人自传 |
Largely self-taught, Bruce has been producing works for some ten years. He has studied a variety of tribal art styles as well as the high Pre-Columbian Art of the Americas which has a unique vibrancy and visual language inexpressible inconventional 'Western' terms. He has been lucky enough to visit the Palaeolithic caves at Altamira where he was able to see some of the world's oldest and most beautiful art works.
He has had a number of small exhibitions in the Leeds area and is currently looking to expand his artistic practice to a number of fields including interior design and site-specific large format work. He is also producing a book of visual and poetic work related to the Mexican sage salvia divinorum which will be published sometime after 2008.
He invites you to take a look at his portfolio at www.biroz.net, and welcomes any commissions or briefs related to the diverse art styles that you find there. |
