The Keeper
2006 collage mixed media 20 x 26 cm |

Title: The Keeper
This was an interesting project for me, I started out with an old wooden plaque 8 x 10 inches, and sanded and stained to weather it even more. There is a pocket made from a rusty piece of window screen, 2 little pockets made with part of a crochet doily, and many different vintage and design papers, fabric and embellishments.
As I was working on it, I had the strangest feeling of having seen something very similar before, it was driving me crazy.
Then I remembered! Tho really far from this design, my grandmother had this hand sewn fabric wall decor with many pockets. It was tattered and stained but it kept my Grannie organized. She kept buttons, receipts, safety pins, keys and more tucked into the pockets.
When ever you were looking for something Grannie would say "it's in the keeper" So I didn't have a choice for the title, this piece has titled itself, The keeper!
There are a couple of art cards and a few other papers tucked in the pockets, I had to add an old rusty safety pin and gave a real title on the front with part of a found metal cupboard handle. Then I added a wire handle with a bead. and dangled an old pillow tassle.
The finished piece measures approx 16 inches long. The back is finished too!
SOLD
I think my Grannie would have liked it!
Thank-you, enjoy! |
Hilda The Cha Cha Fairy
2006 collage mixed media |
|
Hilda is so hilariously funny. She was fun to put together right from the very beginning.
She has hand cut jointed arms and legs and carefully can be positioned many different ways. Made with a variety of design papers, and backed with paper board for sturdiness. She actually has a wooden spine within the paper layers. Her face is a vintage photo reproduction.
She is the belle of the ball and can dance the Cha Cha without missing a step. Should she fumble at all, she has butterfly wings for back up so you would never see a missed step, she'll just flutter her way through it! (How can you tell I have been watching a few too many of the latest dance shows on TV LOL)
Her hair is very unruly, but she just shakes it around in the wind and is never unhappy with her look. Bad hair days can't keep her from dancing and having fun! She is wearing a lovely flapper style dress made with layers of moss green silk braid trim, finished with an elegant choker with teardrop facet beads and of course matching earrings. (All to compliment her lovely highlighted hair of many colors.)
Hilda has moved on. Though I do miss her, I just look at her photos and have a good laugh. I know she is having a great time down in Minnesota USA
Hilda do write us when you can!
