| About the Artist |
I am currently attending first year Diploma of Fine Arts (or "F'arts") at Nepean Arts and Design Centre (Nepean institute of TAFE). I chose to attend TAFE before university for the oppertunity to spend just that much longer developing my skills and being officially unemployed. My father would be much happier maintaining and supporting my delightfully unemployed status if I was studying law. Both my older brother and I, however, have suceeded in dissapointing him and have settled into being full-time artists/private detectives/professional ne'ar-do-wells.
I have a great interest in all kinds of mythology and I often make reference to it in my work. I also like African animals.

The Chimera

He usually has an old goat skull to lean on, affirming his classification as a Chimera, which means "goat". The end of his tail is horsehair from my old horse ('Acorn') who died.

Mephisto in the Kitchen
2006 charcoal |
|
Here I am making reference to the first scene of Goethe's "Faust", when the deamon Mephistopheles first appears in Faust's study and offers him a deal with the devil. For this drawing I constructed the actual face out of fruit and an old goat skull and drew it in the manner of a still life. |
Rudrapryag

|
The Indian city of Rudrapryag was once terrorised during the 1920's by one of the most notorious man eating leopards in history. when he was finally shot and killed however, it became apparant that the creature was very old, with a lame foot and almost no teeth. |

The Oblique Strategy
2006 charcoal & white conte |
|
These drawings are part of a six drawing series called 'The Oblique Strategy'. They are contained in a black solander box and seperated with sheets of tracing paper covered in relative verse. I went around Sydney city taking photos of familiar places to me, and reproduced them with surreal twists. One of them is in fact set in the ruins of the famous St Barnabas Church in Ultimo which burnt down earlier this year. The images are about the sometimes seemingly blurred border between reality and the absurd, especially as I saw it when I was younger and reading alot of books about mythology.
