Because There Is Nothing On This Green Earth That Is Stronger Than
2008 Installation variable |
|
Bespoke lightbox, hand carved/painted sculptures and animation. 4:08 minute loop. This installation simulates the military recruitment office and its giant screen in Times Square, NY. The animation is created from photographic stills and hand-drawn plants, which slowly engulf the scene as the screen pumps out unedited statements and images. |
Get Used To Slow Growth
2009 Photography 3m x 1m |
|
Cut out hand painted letters, which spell out various words and phrases, are placed in landscape settings. Lettering and landscape are united through the use of photography. Referencing grafitti art and media language, these ambiguous statements seem to simultaneously suggest environmental and economic issues. |
Walk On The Wild Side (series)
2009 Photography 76cm x 54cm |
|
The photographic prints of shadows reveal details of a different terrain...pine needles from a forest floor, stones
on an isolated beach. This work can be seen as a reference to the slogan from the French May 1968 protests:
“Sous le pave, le plage.” [“Beneath the pavement, the beach.”].The imagery is constructed as a physical collage
which, is then photographed.

Endangered Americans - Way-side Aster
2007 |
|
Endangered Americans is the title of a series of composite works, which combine photographic collage and drawing. One half of the work is a photographic hand-cut collage, which integrates ghost-like images of big American cars into landscapes. The other half is a drawing of an endangered indigenous American plant rendered in metallic car paints.

2008 |
|
Animation Still
The animation features the military recruitment office in Times Square, New York and the large-scale screen, which serves its advertising needs. The plants are rendered from drawings made with authentic military camouflage patterns. The plants slowly engulf the scene, challenging the series of mesmerising statements and images on the constantly changing screen. In order to make the animation every screen was photographed as it changed. Each plant represents approximately 80 drawings each, drawn on a Wacom tablet.
