Collective dreams, arcane symbolism, shadow work, alchemy of the soul, ancient rituals, reconnection of the human with the divine, the sacred experience of living consciously within each moment: these are the themes that drive me to paint, collage, and sculpt.
My art is a process of self-discovery as I attempt to understand my soul and how I, an artist, fit into life's perfect puzzle. Artists are given images, and they are able to pull these out of themselves and share then with others to create a sense of connection between minds, hearts and souls.
Images and ideas present themselves to me in dreams, during meditations and deep within trancelike states between waking and sleeping. Revisiting the symbols picked out of the liminal space, I expand the images in tangible forms where I can explore their deeper meanings.
The work is part of the dialogue between my subconscious mind and conscious self. I catch a glimpse of an idea and jot it quickly down as a phrase, usually three or four words. The titles of the pieces accomapany the images, as if I’m witnessing an entity that introduces itself.
When my work is going well, I’m filled with a sense that a cryptic language is unfolding in front of me, as though my work is teaching me, and the doors of deeper understanding are opening. The feeling is similar to the moment you suddenly realize where you are while wandering through a semi-familiar area.
This current body of work relates to totem animals, inner landscapes and cartomancy.

I graduated from San Jose State University in 1996, with a BA in General Studio Practice where I focused on glass and metal sculpture. My process has grown out of metal and glass three dimensional work, and I now work primarily in two dimensional collage and oil painting. The summer of 2006, I became a certified Bob Ross oil painting instructor, and it significantly shifted how I approach painting and my tools. Major accomplishments include having two glass pieces in the Red Cloud Heritage Center Museum and two collage pieces in the permanent collection of International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction. |
