Born in 1944 and raised above my grandmother's tavern in Chicago, I began creating art at a very early age. My parents eventually moved the family to a quiet suburban neighborhood where I lived until college. Since 1972, I have been teaching art and drafting. Currently I am living and teaching art in rural Virginia. |

As an outsider looking in, I see my art as reflections and projections of a world of conflict, dreams and humor. These themes have been consistent with my work during the 36 years of making art. I have referred to as a Social Surrealist. Influences include James Ensor, George Grosz, Heade Martin Johnson, Pablo Picasso, M.C. Escher and Joseph Cornell. Historical movements of Dada, Surrealism, Art Brute and medieval iconography have impacted my work. Other influences include personal events, dreams and mythology. |

| My education in the arts has been both formal and personal. I received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree (Painting) from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and a Master's of Fine Arts degree (Painting) from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. I also attended The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C and The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. My personal education is ongoing and derived from my curiosity and interest in the visual arts along with additional interest in history, music, and nature. "..0101" is my twentieth one-person show. My work has been exhibited throughout the country and is included in numerous public and private collections. The work has been recognized and praised by publications as The Washington Post and Art in America. Additional information can be viewed on my Website. |
