Dug up from a polluted back-water plot by the name of Billingham, he has subsequently been replanted here, there and anywhere. Recently returned from a year-long sabbatical in Barcelona, he is back in his adopted home of London, where he is ready to re-negotiate the challenges of his own language and pasty-white faces. |

Taking his lead from the methodology of modern, post-expressionist portrait painters, such as Chuck Close, he works in a vector digital medium, pain-stakingly building up his images over hundreds of layers of shapes to give structure and soul to his paintings of people. Working this format gives him a Gulliver's eye perspective over scale and allows the canvas of his subjects to be 'ripped' at any size. |
