Born 29th August 1975, in Austria, I was interested about art and design from a very early age. After doing a Master degree in visual communications and some years of work experience I went on to do add a Master of Fine Arts degree in Installation and Photography to my art and design career. As I had an artist in residence in china mid-year, I am now doing projects in Shanghai, Sydney and London.

My work is a reflection of photography on itself as a medium. I am fascinated by how photography impacts our perception of reality on a daily bases - how it manipulates and guides our desires, hopes and actions. Referring to what Baudrillard means with "realtiy effect" i am most interested in suggesting metaphors for the "truly" real today. |

This work works against the common notion of a tourist snapshot. instead of capturing the popular site it records its less popular surroundings that could be anywhere and nowhere - even appear fictive and constructed... |

Mask or Doubledeath 05
2005 installation and photograph 100x120 |
|
This work adresses and questions the attempt of our mass-media industry to unify and claim parameters of universal beauty.
More and more women literally loose their faces to adjust to this industry’s standards, beliefs and lies. In this project I aim to
exaggerate the notion of a lost of personality. I employ a clear mask, whose impression is taken from the face of an Italian model,
as a metaphor for absolute beauty. The mask is applied, like a fake facade, upon the real face, uniting them in form and colour.
By photographing different women wearing this mask their individual beauty gets absorbed and distorted,
becoming ugly rather than beautiful.

Doubledeath 01b
2004 photograph and performance 120x100 |
|
My work initially builds upon the classic text of Roland Barthes´ Camera Lucida where he compares a photograph with flat death and addresses the notion of presence and absence. Furthermore, I focus on the «that has been» (Barthes, 1981), suggesting the dialogue between presence/absence, fiction/fact. An original form has changed, transformed into something NEW.
It is its trace which questions and confronts the viewer. By re-photographing this trace – may it be another photograph, a mask, fake flowers or stuffed animals – death happens twice. This is where the notion of doubledeath occurs.
