| About the Artist |
My work embodies states of flux. Sources for what I do are found in the media, popular culture, and natural phenomena. The mystery just below the surface is intriguing, and I certainly enjoy mining paint for its meaning. I am definitely motivated by expressionist tendencies in painting as well as contemporary themes in art. I wish to communicate something about the transient and ephemeral quality of life. The current work is composed in a diptych format with imagery culled from seed catalogs featuring hybrid plants. The second panel features motifs bird figures, abstract patterns, and objects that reference domestic life (salt shaker). The hybrid and other forms exist in separate but overlapping syncretic pictorial spaces. In the past, I worked with x-ray source images which I am planning to introduce in the ongoing series of paintings, these paintings are collectively called swipes. |

From the kneecapping practices of certain groups in Northern Ireland, to my own injury shattering my patella! This painting is one of a series examining x-ray photography for its ability to reveal topologies that reference aspects of identity and mortality. |

More irony...I also broke my humerus in Jamuary, although this piece was done some years ago, again examining x-ray imagery as a way of positing questions on identity and fragility. |
