Mary E Turner

About the Artist

I am an interdisciplinary artist specialising in the print, pattern and photography. My work explores various themes from the relationship between the world and the body to the relationship between form, space and colour. Vivid colours and geometric patterns provide a basis for the majority of work; an exploration into spatial relationships.
I see my genre as “Modern Sophisticated Kitsch”.

Various - up to A2

SLR image of a translucent dress mutated from experiments with raw meat. The main focus of the work was to produce a garment that lets you wear light. The images although floral and organic derived from meat that was cut, sewn, vacuumed packed, dyed, embedded with electronic devices. This brings to mind notions of reincarnation, Frankenstein and also of cyborgs: based on research looking into women artist and new technology and the work of Donna Haraway.
