I trained and worked as a geologist before re-training as a stonecarver in Dorset.
My work has gradually become less classical and more abstract, taking both macroscopic and microscopic geological structures as inspiration for carved stone panels. These are wall mounted and two dimensional.I often incorporate metal leaf, natural pigments and stone dust.Recently I have been charring pieces of Douglas Fir and emplacing molten lead into the wood. Many of the designs are based on folding photographed in remote areas of Nepal. Others are based on thin section slides of rocks seen under a microscope.
