| 关于此艺术家 |
Although trained as an architect, I have always been most comfortable with creating art in a non-linear and intuitive way. Eighteen years ago, I happily decided to leave the practice of architecture, embracing the opportunity to teach and have a painting studio where the constraints of the marketplace would not pressure my work.
My family relocated to New Jersey in 2000 and I joined the faculty of Mercer County Community College as an adjunct professor teaching graphics and Photoshop. My experimentation with the computer as a medium to manipulate images profoundly influenced my painting.
I start with an image of one of my paintings or an original photograph and incorporate things like old photographs, paper, maps, postcards, and other historical pieces of ephemera, or parts of my own drawings and paintings.
These pieces rely on many layers of imagery, making the finished work quite complicated and dense. The results range from digital collages to painted collaged canvases or reliquaries, which are three dimensional constructions which often include found natural objects including wood, shells, beads, sticks, feathers, and lettering in the form of old type, scrabble tiles, or computer generated images.
