| Gudawer Kalirai | |
Gudawer Kalirai was born in 1973. His fascination with photography, the quality, and flexibility of the medium, led him to study photography at the London College of Printing. Since graduating in 1995, Gudawer has won prizes for his photographs taken around India and his abstract portraits. He has exhibited in various galleries in London including the Photographers Gallery. Recently he has specialised in corporate commissions creating work up to six metres wide using the most advanced digital techniques printing on surfaces such as canvas, aluminium and acrylic. Amongst others he completed a major commission for the HM Treasury building in Westminster taking photographs all over Great Britain and producing large abstract canvasses. He has also successfully completed commissions for Hospitals, Government Buildings, Banks, and many Corporate office spaces. See CV for more details. |

For the ‘006 Series’ Gudawer has found his inspiration in landscape, particularly in the strong aesthetic of the beauty of trees. Influenced by painting and in particular Abstract Expressionism, Gudawer has created digital ‘paintings’ with a strong emphasis on layering imagery. By manipulating the colour, texture, light and shape of these layers there is often interplay between intention, accident and chance to create images, which are fluid yet have a sense of order and control. |
