| About the Artist |
My work is primarily concerned with consumption/consummation in its various incarnations be it mental, political and/or carnal; incorporating the means by which such media (i.e. food, propaganda/news, sexual mores) is prepared, conveyed and digested. As befits this conception my influences are wide ranging and eclectic, often combining disparate sources and genres to create new mixed-media hybrids. Subsequently my recent methodology seeks to combine digital and traditional print-making techniques.
(Sometimes though I just draws for the sake of it and then try to make sense of it later. Y'know, juxtaposition between consciousness, unconsciousness
and semi-controlled happenstance)

Uterine Vessel & Egg 4 (detail)
2007 Giclée print 106 x 87 (approx) |
|
Based on the malleability of embryonic stem cells, Uterine Vessel is an abstract depiction of an artificial construct, a biomechanical sex organ/egg incubator, occupying an in vitro prenatal space. Ambiguously feminine in purpose and phallic in form, Uterine Vessel is an evolutionary morphogenetic re-synthesis of both the male and female reproductive systems. |

JC Nowlin: The Driveler Of Navarre
2007 3d/2d Digital Collage - |
|
Portrait of a certain dull, mediocre, talentless Sunday-school "artist" as a buttock-headed idiot farmhand. An ignoramus given to stupid and unwarranted pronouncements in much the same way as a flatulent donkey is prone to passing wind; since Nowlin's opinions are those of an ass, I have depicted him as such. His banal badly painted landscapes have been employed in this collage as surface textures for the background, shirt and hat. |

403 Landscape: Sky-lights of the Infinite 4
2004 Giclée print 60 x 27 |
|
"It was not long before thousands of pairs of greedy eyes were glued to the peepholes of the stereoscope, as though they were the skylights of the infinite. The love of obscenity, which is as vigorous a growth in the heart of natural man as self-love, could not let slip such a glorious satisfaction." -Baudelaire From the ‘Skylights of the Infinite’ suite, part of a larger body of work entitled ‘403 Landscape’. The diptych format was employed to loosely mimic the stereoscopic photograph layout (examples of which date back to 1855) which when viewed through a stereoscope apparatus created a primitive 3-D image. |
