| About the Artist |
Drawing on experiences from her travels to Europe, the Middle East, Northern Canada and South America, Sherelle Wilsack harbours a deep veneration for the leaders and peoples that made these regions rich in culture and history.
Using multiple layers of oil applied with the organic touch of her fingers, Wilsack depicts the trappings of persecution and desolation of spirit in the faces of her portraits, yet manifests a transcendent psychological triumph of moral reasoning beneath the physical appearance. This moral ascendance becomes unstoppable in the impassioned oil pastels of Saint Stephen and The Women.
Wilsack's complex psychic expressions and intense emotion evoke a time of social, political and religious upheaval, communicating a powerful reflection of our present times. Her characters pass through the filter of the human soul to reveal an essence imbued with moral certitude.
