Born in Schenectady NY; Grew up in Upstate NY and Vermont. Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, USA. I began to make art as soon as I was able to hold a pencil or crayon and have continued for my entire life. |

Most of my work is oil on canvas, or board; though I have made some figures in clay with installation treatments from time to time. Many of my paintings are large. Recently I have made more small and medium size works as well. Most of them are focused on a main "character" that has some resemblance to myself, though she is not a literal self portrait. Her narrative is related to events, feelings, or thoughts I am experiencing or have done, that come from my own life and that around me. These experiences can be both direct and indirect. They might be emotions and thoughts generated from the ever present newsmedia and entertainment industry combined with personal experience, all of which gets very mixed up in our modern life. Other characters in the drama are also drawn from my own life - my pets, my friends or family, my dreams and memories. The figures are painted from a combination of life, imagination, and reference. |

This piece was inspired by a vivid dream I had of Goya's "May 3rd, 1808", on the eve of the invasion of Irag. The figures were all painted from life - posed for by other artists and writers while I was in an artists residency. |
